Our friends at SOE and our friends at Namaste Entertainment have decided to join forces. But what does this mean?
In very simple terms, it means that EverQuest Next is going to utilize the Storybricks AI engine to drive its content. If you recall a little while back, John Smedley said that one of the biggest fights in MMO game design was content churn. The players can play it faster than you can design it. Personally, I’ve always felt that the best way to deal with it would be to spend time developing tools to facilitate rapid content generation.
Storybricks is exactly that kind of tool. While their official website isn’t much on information, their old Kickstarter page contains quite a bit more, giving you a peek under the covers of how it works.
It was a shame when their Kickstarter failed to get funding, but I suspect that putting themselves out there might be was brought them to the attention of the SOE team. I was already excited about EQ Next, but now I am VERY excited.
Top that with Smedley’s prediction of seeing a release by the end of the year and I’m practically bursting at the seams.
